Lab Director
Nathan Cheek is an assistant professor of psychology at the University of Maryland, where he directs CHIP lab. He received his Ph.D. from Princeton University and studies biased beliefs that drive inequalities and how people make sense of their own and others' choices and experiences.

Lab Manager
Maddie Hammer is the lab manager for CHIP lab. She received her B.A. in psychology and sociology from Washington University in St. Louis in 2024. Her research interests include prototypicality, intersectional stereotyping, and representation for marginalized groups. In her free time, Maddie enjoys listening to new artists and going on fun adventures.

Suha Ahmad is a sophomore studying government and politics and psychology at UMD. Her research interests inlude decision making, especially in the context of behavior in the political environment. In her free time, she enjoys drawing and listening to music.

Kaitlyn Burnett is a senior at UMD, pursuing a degree in psychology. Her research interests include social psychology, perception, complex trauma, and LGBTQIA+ populations. In her free time, Kaitlyn enjoys singing, running, and learning to play the guitar.

Kelsey Dela Pena is a sophomore studying psychology at UMD. Her research interests include the pandemic's impact on today's youth and the "crab mentality" within groups. In her free time, Kelsey enjoys baking and crocheting, usually with BTS playing in the background.

Olivia Fulop is an undergraduate at UMD studying psychology. She is particularly interested in how past experiences inform current decision making processes, as well as neuroplasticity. In her free time, Olivia enjoys reading, writing, and illustrating.

Amelie Pessoa is a psychology major with an interest in how processes related to diversity science and social cognition shape our perceptions of the world. Currently, she is interested in biased beliefs about minority group members' resilience to adversity. Outside of the lab, Amelie enjoys traveling, photography, and taking care of plants.

Lucia Xie is a senior at UMD pursuing a degree in neuroscience and plans to attend medical school after graduation. This is her second semester with CHIP lab, and her research interests include understanding the neurological processes behind emotion, cognition, and disease. In her free time, she enjoys playing piano and running.
